Blast Away the Pounds Indoor Walk DVD

The Indoor Walk DVD is a beginner to intermediate level exercise video. It includes three different walks, along with a stretch routine to complete at the end.

  • Easy Walk
  • Fat Blasting Interval Walk
  • Power Walk and Tone
  • Stretch

Easy Walk

Easy Walk is a 15 minute aerobic workout that is supposedly equal to walking one 15 minute mile. Denise leads four other exercisers in this very basic, easy to follow routine. There is a lot of arm pumping and walking in place for the warm up. The workout has no impact moves and is therefore great for beginner exercisers or those needing a workout that is easy on the joints. Denise is very energetic and positive the entire time. The moves are easy to follow and would be appropriate for overweight and older exercisers looking for a beginner workout.

Fat Blasting Interval Walk

The Fat Blasting Interval Walk routine is also comparative to a 15 minute, one mile walk. The movements are a bit more energized and varied in this program. It is low impact and appropriate for beginners. There are some jumping and bouncing moves in this section that can be modified for those exercisers who aren’t quite ready, by continuing to march or walk in place, always keeping one foot on the ground. Denise uses interval training here, interjecting kicks and punches in with the marching. Overall the workout is easy to follow and is made up of mostly of aerobic-class type movements.

Power Walk and Tone

Power Walk and Tone uses very light weights to tone and burn more calories. Denise suggests using 1 to 3 pound dumbbells. She performs bicep curls, shoulder presses, chest flyes, back rows and tricep kickbacks in between easy floor work of walking in place and basic kicks. The increased resistance from the weights may increase the calorie burn slightly. As the user gets stronger they can increase the weight of the dumbbells to raise the difficulty level of the workout, and become stronger and more fit. This workout includes the most upper body work of the three and therefore works the entire body better than the other two. She ends the workout with about one minute of easy stretching.

Stretch

Denise Austin takes the exerciser through ten minutes of basic stretches. Stretching the entire body after working each muscle is important after every workout. The stretch routine should be completed after doing any of the 15 minute walk routines.

Fit Level

The Blast Away the Pounds Indoor Walk DVD is mostly a beginner workout routine, but also suitable for intermediate exercisers who want a low impact workout. Denise’s sunny personality is encouraging and positive. Some may be bothered by her cueing or performing the exercises off of the beat.
