Finding the motivation to exercise is a matter of using practical methods that boost enthusiasm for workouts. Exercise inspiration is achievable with motivation tactics.

Many people need more motivation to exercise. Finding the motivation to remain on a fitness program is challenging. In fact, many weight loss and fitness attempts fall short of success because of lack of inspiration.

According to an Oxford Journals report, Donna J. Plonczynski explains that “Motivation is at the crux of…health.” It is crucial to develop solid motivation to succeed. Utilizing the following motivational skills and tactics can help speed along success of any goal.

Set Realistic Goals

If goals are not realistic, then no amount of hoping will manifest them. Effort shouldn't go wasted by pursuing vague or unreachable ideals. It is important to ensure that goals are attainable. The acronym S.M.A.R.T. can help when choosing proper goals. It stands for smart, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely.

If these attributes are kept in mind when choosing exercise goals, it makes the attainment of them much more believable. Some examples of S.M.A.R.T. exercise related goals would be:

  • I will exercise six days a week for at least 20 minutes over the course of the next 3 months.
  • I will strength train three days a week at 5:00 pm daily.
  • I will do 100 timed pushups a day until the end of the year.

Visualization Tactics

Visualizing the outcome of goals and feeling the rush of future successes, is an extremely powerful method to staying motivated to exercise.

There are numerous methods to visualization, but nothing fancy is necessary. Simply taking a few quiet moments every day and picturing a dream body in vivid detail is enough to kick start motivation. It’s important to incorporate as many of the senses as possible when visualizing. For example, it would be helpful to include details such as the smell of the gym, the pump in various muscles, and the slimming look of lean abs in the mirror.

Another way to visualize exercise goals is to create a vision board. A corkboard pinned with pictures and quotes that trigger excitement of goals is simple to make. Place it in a conspicuous spot and look over it daily.

Inspiring People

Other people’s successes can be very motivational. Reading and learning about their achievements can help make the present goals seem more within reach. It’s a comfort to know that if something has been done before, anyone can do it.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Francesca Dennis, and Joe Vitale are a few examples of lives where fitness takes a priority. Reading biographies, watching videos, and extracting their wisdom can fill up a low motivation tank. Each story and tidbit gleaned from these resources can be applied to boost enthusiasm for workouts.

Motivation is the fuel that propels exercise and fitness success. Zig Ziglar has said, “People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing - that's why we recommend it daily” Cultivate the habits of setting realistic goals, using visualization tactics, and surrounding yourself with inspiring people. Finding the motivation to exericise is a key to exercise and weight loss victory.
