Being fit means so much more than going to the gym a number of times per week, and eating the right foods in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle when not working out.

Being physically fit will give you the energy, stamina, and drive to focus on other important aspects of your life, such as parenting. Furthermore, being physically fit will in turn develop a mental fitness, which will provide you with more confidence, patience and energy to raise your children. Combined with a healthy balanced diet, being fit will provide you with all the necessary tools, and means in raising your children.

Increased Patience

Quite simply put, working out enables you to become more tolerant. The fact that you release all your pent up daily/weekly frustrations, in a safe, gym environment means that you will have more patience outside of that environment. Furthermore, this occurs due to the fact that each time you work-out you will be releasing endorphins, which provides you with a sense of calmness afterwards.

The more you train, the more patience and tolerance you will experience in your life. This in turn means a calmer and more relaxed you, which is not only beneficial to your life (through relationships and work based stress) but is also of benefit to your children, as you will have more fortitude as well as serenity when raising them.

More Confidence

Confidence is an important aspect of parenting. Having the confidence to raise, nurture, support and at times chastise your children is something that is needed in order to give your children the best start in life. Maintaining a fit and healthy lifestyle will allow you not only to do this, but it will also improve your confidence which is beneficial for your own life and well-being.

This increased confidence will occur due to the fact that training brings on certain physical changes to the body. It tones, builds muscle, and changes its shape without you even realising. Many people want to look good, and if you look good, you will feel good as a result, which in turn increases confidence.

Keeping up with Children

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle (incorporating fitness and a healthy balanced diet) will give you more energy to play with your children. As children learn through play, it is important that you are up to the task that will allow you to assist this learning.

Being physically fit, as well as maintaining a healthy balanced diet, both contribute to your overall mental fitness/ health. This will make you will feel more alert, switched on, and give you a higher concentration level. As a result, this will enable you to assist your child with any challenges they may be faced with (e.g. homework).

Role Model

As a parent, your children will learn many of your traits. Children learn through play and observing the behaviour of others. As a result, if you are seen to maintain a healthy lifestyle, your children will more than likely emulate such behaviour, as it will be part of their learning process. As a role model to your children, this gives you a great sense of responsibility, and if they look up to and are proud of you, this will assist you with their upbringing.
