Read these suggestions on exercise without effort, and then say you don’t have time!

Who says they haven’t got time? You don’t need more time; use what you have wisely.

  • Use the stairs more. Don’t just put those toys on the bottom step until you go later, take them now.
  • When you walk even to the loo, walk faster and take bigger strides.
  • Do the ironing with more effort; put more movement into those strokes.
  • Use a cordless phone and take advantage of the time on the phone to stretch, do leg lifts, even the stairs. Even better if you’ve an exercise bike or a step, use it while talking on the phone.
  • While watching T.V., do some leg lifts or use some arm weights, put the commercial times to good use.
  • Park your car a bit further away from school, work or the shops and take those extra moments to stride out.
  • While making a cup of tea or coffee don’t just stand there looking at the kettle - do some leg squats or push-ups from worktop.
  • Always take the stairs and not the elevator, it’s often just as quick if not quicker and if your job is on your feet or sitting down, you really need to pump those legs to get the blood flowing .
  • Sweep the yard with gusto. You’ll be amazed at what hard work it can be, Try timing yourself, it makes you go a little faster and you’ll notice the difference in your breathing.
  • Walk the dog more often and at a brisker pace, if you haven’t got one, maybe you could borrow one.
  • Take that letter to the postbox now; don’t just leave it to take out the next time someone goes.
  • Get off your bus or train a stop earlier and walk the rest of the way.
  • Rather than meeting up for coffee why not suggest a walk in the park with a healthier bottle of water or fruit juice.
  • When stuck at the traffic lights do some head rotations stretching that neck up, down and around as far as it will go. Give your shoulders a roll in both directions too.
  • Stretch out your arms while at your desk, grab your opposite elbow and stretch to one side then the other.
  • If you work with computers a lot, take an eye break and give them roll around as often as possible.
  • When hanging the washing out use it to do as much bending and stretching as you can. Suck in those tummy muscles and bend over pick up an item of clothing, peg it on the line and release those muscles.
