Jillian Michaels has created a workout system just for beginners. The Frontside DVD will challenge and push the new exerciser as he starts a workout program.

The Jillian Michaels for Beginners - Frontside workout DVD will encourage and challenge those who are new to working out. Her tips on form and enthusiasm will keep beginners going. The DVD includes six circuit workouts plus interviews with former Biggest Loser contestants.

Frontside Workout

The Frontside workout is a beginner workout that works the front muscles of the body:

  • Chest
  • Shoulders
  • Triceps
  • Abs
  • Quadriceps

It is set up as a circuit style with six circuits. The circuits are a series of exercises that are worked back to back to burn fat and strengthen muscles.

Circuit 1

Circuit one starts with a 30 second cardio warm up of jumping jacks, followed by squats and pushups. These exercises work the quadriceps and chest. A cardio interval of jumping jacks is worked in as well. Each circuit is repeated three times.

Circuit 2

The cardio interval for circuit two is marching in place for 30 seconds. Exercisers then perform chest dips and king squats, which are a lunge with the rear leg elevated. Muscles worked are the chest, triceps and quads. Jillian has the exerciser do more challenging variations of the moves to give variety to the viewer.

Circuit 3

The circuit three routine is jumping rope, chest flyes, and wide legged squats. The chest and legs are worked. Dumbbells are used for this circuit and will help to burn additional calories and increase muscular strength. Jillian is consistently careful with checking form and giving pointers on making the exercises easier or more challenging for the viewer.

Circuit 4

Circuit four starts with jumping jacks for the cardio warm up, then moves onto chair squats with a front raise and shoulder presses.

Circuit 5

Circuit five begins with marching in place, a low impact move that will still get the heart rate up and burn calories. Next are tricep kickbacks, and leg raises with an oblique crunch, followed by basic crunches.

Circuit 6

Circuit six starts with simulating jumping rope with dumbbells, lateral raises for shoulders, overhead tricep extensions and finishes with planks.

Equipment Needed

The equipment needed in the Frontside for Beginners workout DVD includes

  • Dumbbells
  • Chair or bench

Great for Beginners

Beginners can learn a lot from this workout DVD. Jillian Michaels gives many helpful tips for those new to exercise. She is very clear as to what body form should look and feel like. She suggests variations on most every exercise that could be made a little easier for a beginner, or could offer the advanced beginner a bit more challenging workout. The Jillian Michaels for Beginners Frontside workout DVD would be a positive addition to the home workout library for anyone new to exercise, or starting back after a long period of time. The only downside to this DVD is that it does only work the “front side” of the body. The viewer will need to be aware of this and work the opposing muscle groups, such as those shown in Jillian’s Backside DVD.
