Is it possible to get a great cardiovascular workout at home? The Biggest Loser seems to think so. This three level cardio workout may be just the perfect weight loss DVD for the home exerciser. Cardio MaxThe Cardio Max workout is broken down in to five sections with three cardiovascular workouts:
Inspirational StoriesThree Biggest Loser contestants: Neil, Eric and Pam, share their weight loss stories. Eric talks about his journey on the show and how he has dealt with trying to maintain his weight loss outside of the show. Warm UpSeven former Biggest Loser contestants follow Bob Harper along on this 5 minute cardio warm up. Exercises include simulating jumping rope, lunges, punches and stretches. Level One CardioSix former contestants follow Bob for this 20 minute cardiovascular workout. Bob uses lots of upper and lower body movements to keep the exerciser moving quickly and burning calories. Some of the movements are higher impact, with a low or no impact variation given. Bob Harper interacts with the camera to include the at-home exerciser in the workout. Light dumbbells are used but not required - they will add extra resistance to the movements and the number of calories burned will increase. Exercises in Level One include jumping jacks, punches, walking push-ups and planks. Level Two CardioJillian Michaels leads four former contestants in this 10 minute cardio workout. She wastes no time in getting them started on this medium impact workout. Exercises include skaters, punches, butt kicks, and tire runs. Jillian is an enthusiastic trainer and brings a good variety of exercises to the program. She keeps her team moving the entire time to keep the heart rate up. Level Three CardioKim Lyons, who only appeared on two seasons of the show, leads this 10 minute cardio routine. Four contestants follow her through a mostly boxing and kick-boxing routine including uppercut punches, torso rotations and speed bag with lunges. Cool DownBob Harper leads this 5 minute cool down that he calls “yoga stretch”. This is an effective cool down after an intense cardio workout. It will bring the heart rate down and stretch and relax the muscles that were just worked. EffectiveThe workouts blend well together as all three trainers use similar movements. This is a high energy routine, most appropriate for intermediate to advanced level exercisers. Beginners can try it as well, using modified movements and being extra careful with body form.
