Water and Walk are two rich resources freely available to man. But how many of us know its real worth?

When god created Earth and then the Oceans, everything sprang to life. There was greenery all around and living beings began their journey by walking around. How beautiful it was to feel the mother earth and explore its beauty by treading on foot. How grateful it was of god to endow us with limbs to work and walk. And when tired after a day’s work, to quench thirst with clean water was like ‘manna in wilderness.’

Our forefathers were, indeed, healthier than any of us only because they walked around in search of food and basic necessities of life. They never had limousines to travel or health clubs to shed their weight. They neither had soft drinks or hard liquor. They never visited hospitals for regular check-ups. Good exercise, natural food and plenty of water kept them fit and energetic through the day.

Drink Water not Colas and Coffee

Today, neither water nor walk is fashionable because they are cheap, readily available and considered a poor man’s resource. Instead of walking many prefer enrolling at the gym or health club. Instead of pure drinking water ‘colas,’ beer’ and coffee are preferred. The advertisements in newspaper and TV only add to their lure. However, can any of these drinks keep you hydrated, digest your food better or keep you healthy? The answer is ‘no.’

Drink 7 glasses of Water a Day for Wellness

There is 55% to 75% of water in our human body. All major components in our body cells are dissolved in water. And to keep fit and function properly we need to take a minimum of 7 glasses of water a day. This is because water is a universal solvent necessary for our life. It is essential for many metabolic processes within the body. And it keeps respiratory tract secretions more fluid.

Drink Water to Drive Away Cold and Constipation

By consuming enough water a day, we can keep healthy and look good. The Yogic way of starting the day is by taking two full glasses of water. Drink adequate quantity of water whenever you are thirsty to drive away cold, constipation, gas trouble, headaches or stones in the kidney. One of the secrets of a glowing skin is also good intake of water. Water keeps you light but doesn’t add to your weight.

Make Walking a Way of Life

Walking is as essential as water. It is the best form of exercise as it is safe, saving and self-dependent. Walking for half an hour a day especially early in the morning is highly beneficial. However, if it is not possible to walk at this early hour, do so anytime of the day. Try to incorporate walking in daily activities like shopping and gardening. At home climb up and down the stairs for performing even little chores.

Walk to Keep Health Risks Away

Walking keeps you light and alert. It can reduce your chances of Cancer, type 2 Diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, depression and obesity. It reduces stress and lowers harmful low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol. At the same time, it increases bone health and useful high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol.

By walking properly and consuming enough water everyday, keep doctors at bay and sleep peacefully. Why spend money on artificial drinks and costly health clubs when you have treasures like water and walking in your command. Mix water with lime and honey or yoghurt to have a healthy drink. Walk outside to charge your feet and observe the beauty of nature. However they are used, these two precious ‘w’s will remain the elixirs of life.
