Losing weight hasn’t always been easy for many people. We struggle every day with trying everything we can to shed a few or several pounds. Some people lose weight faster and quicker than others, but if you keep at it, you will lose those extra pounds you put on.

Here are 10 tips for anyone who is struggling to lose weight. They're similar to my previous weight loss article, but these tips do work.

Exercise

The source in any weight loss plan is to get some exercise. At minimum you will need 30 minute workouts five days a week; every other day. It's best to pick a few routines that you enjoy and stick with those until you get used to exercising five days a week.

The more muscles tissue you have, the more calories you’re going to burn. The reason is because muscle is an active tissue and fat, well, isn’t. This is why your muscles will burn more calories each day for it’s own maintenance.

Keep A Diary

Keeping a diary or journal could really help in your weight loss plan. Take a few minutes and jot down everything you ate and how much you ate. Also write how hungry you were before each meal and any feelings or emotions you might be having. This diary will keep you focused and on track to achieving your goals.

Think About Being Healthy

Stop stressing out about having to be thin, think about becoming healthy. You will be more successful at gaining your long-term weight loss if you focus on being healthy as opposed to being super skinny. Focusing on what foods will keep your healthy and not just foods that will make you fit into a size 2 dress will just affect your body's weight; and not in a good way.

Poor Eating Habits

Why are you overeating? Stress, loneliness, anger, depression are some of the main reasons why people start to overeat.. Once you know this reason, you will be able to control your emotions without food, which will help you get control back and start losing weight.

Be Around Positive People

The last thing needed right now would be negativity. Having the support from others is crucial in long-term weight loss. You will find some encouraging and great people at weight loss programs like Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers. They are there to help you achieve your goal.

Portion Control

This part isn't always the easiest for some. Eating healthy is not just watching what you eat, but how much of it as well. Start watching the amount of food that you eat in one sitting. For beginners it's always best to eat half of the food on your plate and save the other half for tomorrow. Pay attention to how hungry you really are and stop eating when you feel comfortably full—not stuffed!

Even eating slowly can help you shed some pounds. It takes your brain 20 minutes before it starts to realize that you're getting full. If you eat really fast, you'll end up eating beyond fullness. Depending on how quickly you eat, the amount of calories consumed before you start getting full can be significant. Next time you eat a meal, slow down!

Small Changes

The more weight that’s lost quickly, the more likely it’s coming from water and muscle—not fat. Fat loss is better achieved when you lose weight slowly. Try not to lose more than two pounds in a week; one pound is about 3,500 calories. Small changes like eating 250 calories less a day and trying to lose about 250 calories a day from exercise will help you lose one two pounds, of mostly fat, a week.
