Exercises done correctly isolate target muscles magnifying gains. Research techniques or hire a personal trainer to ensure the maximum overall results.

On my most resent trip to the health club I had the opportunity to observe some of the client there working out. What I saw was quite interesting, as a trainer I can’t help but notice both proper and improper technique (quite painful to watch). There are two major points I’d like to make with regard to improper technique or execution of movements.

The first being the risk of injury. When lifting weights, if not done with proper, posture, technique and load one could injure himself. It was ironic that most of the deviation I observed was men. Seems men feel they are pre-disposed to proper technique simply because they are men, but this is far from the truth. As with anything in life involving technique, training and practice are required. I’m not saying that weight lifting is rocket science but a little research can go a long way toward a successful program.

This leads me to the second point when lift weights you’ll notice that each exercise is designed to target a specific muscle or group of muscles i.e. bicep curl works the bicep, lat pull-down works the lat, but when done improper you can reduce the efficiency of the movement and the gains. This results in slow to no results from the movement.

So gentlemen and ladies as well do a little research or hire a trainer for a few months to ensure that you are maximizing both your time and efforts in the gym and reducing your possibility for injury.
