Some seniors are settling for the weakness and sickness that is associated with a sedimentary lifestyle, seniors can be just as active and healthy as they choose to be.

In recent conversations with some of my clients, I was alarmed to hear some of the comments they related to me, made by some of their friends. Some of these were friends they had grown up with while others were buddies they attended college with. What they told me was a strong indication that there are quite a few seniors who are not only inactive but also ignorant about exercising and the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.

As you know this column is dedicated to the enlightenment of all people to the ways and benefits of maintaining or implementing healthy habits and sustaining them. So we’d like to touch as many lives as we can, seniors included too!

Ok, so what did my clients tell me you are wondering? One client, after having lunch with an old friend told me her asked her if she could still do a squat. I’m serious; she really asked if she could still do a squat and of course she was able to reply that she could indeed do a squat, in fact she could do numerous squats repeatedly. Another client said one of her life long friends while commenting on some of ailments suggested that they were a part of getting older.

We as fitness professionals would like to enlighten and motivate as many people as we can on the benefits of maintaining an active lifestyle. People don’t become weak and frail because they get older they get weak and frail because they stop moving and it doesn’t happen overnight it’s a consistent demise, accumulating over time. It is not anything you have to accept you can change it whenever you decide to, but the longer you wait the steeper the climb.
